Not Every Sunday
A note to the hive
Season 2 was supposed to start this Sunday, July 26th. It isn’t going to.
Here’s why.
Season 1 was written from the other side.
Every piece in it described something I had already come through. The loss, the win, the rooms and thoughts I finally walked out of and into. I was reporting back from somewhere I’d already gone.
Season 2 is different.
Most of the essays I’ve drafted are about things I am still inside of and becoming. I haven’t reached the other side yet. When I read the drafts back I can hear it. They explain. They don’t yet testify. The words are accurate and the authority isn’t earned yet. The last mile experience is missing.
You would have caught it. Maybe not on the first read, but eventually.
The deadline I originally chose is what did it.
A fixed cadence lets the calendar decide when a lesson is finished, and the calendar is not qualified to make that call for me.
When I put a date on Season 2, it became a debt.
The date was out there. People were asking me about it. And when I knew the essays weren’t ready, the honest thing and the easy thing stopped being the same thing.
The easy thing was silence. Keep working. Keep the date. Tell myself one more week might close the distance, and when it didn’t, tell myself that again.
I know from personal experience a lot of us have gone through some version of this loop. Most of us, at some point, have maintained something past the point we already knew. A plan, a role, a version of ourselves we keep describing out of habit. The silence feels like protecting the people we care about.
What I keep coming back to, is this.
There is no shame in truth. Silence is comfortable. And silence leads to decay.
That reminder is why this post exists.
This is its own essay and it’ll find you when I’ve inspected the relationship between truth, comfort, decay and shame in more detail.
So the schedule is changing.
Season 2 will still arrive on Sunday evenings at 6:30pm EST. Just not every Sunday.
Each piece will find you when the lesson it is about is through me. Some are close. Some will take a while.
Most of my time right now goes into building a trading algorithm. That isn’t separate from the writing. It’s where a few of these essays are coming from.
The growth in front of me is the part I’m excited about. The drafts in Season 2 have turned into my map.
Two things before I go.
If any of these pieces moved you, tell me which one. I’d love to understand what actually reaches you, and you’re the only ones who can tell me.
And if there’s something you want me to write toward, send it. A question you’re sitting in. A feeling you can’t yet perfectly name. You can reply to this email or leave a comment below.
One of the best essays in Season 1 started as somebody else’s question!
See you on a Sunday.
